1964

We have a network of over 300 healthcare professionals and 70 volunteer pilots

In 1964, Mario Salazar made his first official trip as a pilot. Since then, flying through the skies of Colombia would become his great passion, risking his life on numerous occasions, and dedicating himself many times over to saving thousands of lives. Just two years later, on June 4, 1966, he took his plane and flew to San Jacinto, Bolívar, supporting what can be considered the first brigade of the Colombian Civil Air Patrol. Thus began this dream that today, 47 years later, conducts medical and surgical brigades throughout Colombian territory.

How did it happen?

One sunny morning at Guaymaral airport, five young friends, including Captain Salazar, found themselves sharing anecdotes, life projects, and dreams, along with their passion for flying. These five young pilots, with the spirit and energy typical of their age, wanted to change the world, leveraging their talents, knowledge, and skills to serve Colombians. So they decided to found the COLOMBIAN CIVIL AIR PATROL, which would primarily focus on conducting search and rescue missions and, sporadically, medical aid brigades. The initiative was quickly embraced by four more pilots, creating a group of nine partners willing to donate their time, talent, and fuel to contribute to this great cause.

60´S

During the early years...

PAC worked closely with the Colombian Civil Defense and the Armed Forces. In addition to the practicality of PAC aircraft, the technology they had in the late 1960s was a novelty for these institutions. In the early 1970s, PAC pilots participated in aviation festivals where they learned acrobatic techniques that would later save their lives in the complex missions and landing strips they often encountered.

Was not until 1977 that the COLOMBIAN CIVIL AIR PATROL acquired legal status. For 11 years, it was a wonderful initiative of young adventurers who traveled throughout the country performing dangerous missions and risking their lives for thousands of Colombians.

Gradually, the number of pilots affiliated with the PAC grew, along with those benefiting from this work. With the legal constitution of the Patrol, the new members decided that the PAC's mission should focus on conducting medical brigades, thus strengthening the added value they had built over so many years: reaching the most remote and vulnerable areas of the country, where the State and other organizations rarely make an appearance.

1964

Contamos con una red de más de 300 personas en salud y de 70 pilotos voluntarios

En 1964, Mario Salazar realizó su primer viaje oficial como piloto. Desde entonces, volar por los cielos de Colombia se convertiría en su gran pasión, arriesgando su vida en numerosas ocasiones, entregándose muchas veces más para salvar miles de vidas. Tan solo dos años después, el 4 de junio de 1966, tomó su avión y voló hacia San Jacinto, Bolívar, apoyando lo que se puede considerar como la primera brigada de la Patrulla Aérea Civil Colombiana. Así comenzó este sueño que hoy, 47 años después, realiza brigadas médicas y quirúrgicas por todo el territorio Colombiano.

50´s, 60´s y 70´s
¿Cómo sucedió?

Una mañana soleada, en el aeropuerto de Guaymaral, 5 amigos de juventud, entre ellos el Capitán Salazar, se encontraron compartiendo anécdotas, proyectos de vida y sueños, además de su pasión por volar. Cinco jóvenes pilotos, con ese espíritu y energía propios de la edad, querían cambiar el mundo, aprovechando sus talentos, conocimientos y destrezas y ponerlos al servicio de los colombianos. Entonces decidieron fundar la PATRULLA AÉREA CIVIL COLOMBIANA, la cual se dedicaría a realizar misiones de búsqueda y rescate esencialmente y, esporádicamente, brigadas de auxilio médico.

La iniciativa fue rápidamente acogida por 4 pilotos más, creando un grupo de 9 socios dispuestos a donar su tiempo, talento y combustible para contribuir en esta gran causa. Los primeros años, la PAC trabajó muy de la mano con la Defensa Civil Colombiana y las Fuerzas Militares. Además de la practicidad de los aviones de la PAC, la tecnología con que estos contaban a finales de los años 60s era toda una novedad para estas instituciones.

A comienzos de la década de los 70s, los pilotos de la PAC participaron en festivales de aviación donde aprendieron técnicas de acrobacia que más adelante les salvaría la vida en las complejas misiones y pistas de aterrizaje con las que varias veces se tuvieron que encontrar.

Aunque fue acogida en muy poco tiempo por la población y el gobierno

No fue sino hasta 1977 que la PATRULLA AÉREA CIVIL COLOMBIANA adquirió personería jurídica.
Durante 11 años fue una maravillosa iniciativa de jóvenes aventureros que viajaron por todo el país realizando peligrosas misiones y arriesgando sus vidas por miles de colombianos.

Poco a poco el número de pilotos afiliados a la PAC fue creciendo y con ellos los beneficiados por esta labor. Con la constitución jurídica de la Patrulla, los nuevos miembros decidieron que la misión de la PAC debería enfocarse en la realización de brigadas médicas, fortaleciendo de igual forma el valor agregado que habían construido por tantos años: llegar a los lugares más apartados y vulnerables del país, donde el Estado y otras organizaciones difícilmente hacen presencia.

Ya son 57 años los que la PATRULLA AÉREA CIVIL COLOMBIANA, PAC lleva volando por los cielos de Colombia llevando bienestar a las personas más necesitadas del país gracias al generoso trabajo de nuestros PILOTOS Y VOLUNTARIOS.
